mike lee, from rand paul, from et cetera, you don't hear them right now. as you said, they're making some noises about how we don't want to trade sequester cuts unless there's a firm guarantee amended mandatory spending cuts. we don't want the extension of unemployment insurance. but these are discussions of actual details of a possible budget plan, not the sort of throwing down the gauntlet kind of, we're going to shut the whole joint down, thing we were hearing. you're not hearing that at all. and i think at least temporarily the biggest names in the tea party -- there's 20 people in the house who signed that letter. frankly, those are the last drags in the bottom of the teacup. they don't mean a whole lot. it's the rand pauls, ted cruzs, mike lees who matter. and they are conspicuous by their silent at this point. >> despite all this talk about big government being evil, the people do miss it. the government once it ceases to be available it begins to look pretty good. anyway, you won't find much agreement in the republican party these days, but there is at least some consensus by

patty murray and congressman paul ryan, the budget chairs working on the deal are at least determined to keep the government open and they think they can get the plan together for a vote later this week. one of the final sticking points in the deal could be unemployment. friday the unemployment rate dropped to 7%. that's the lowest since november of 2008. federal benefits expire at the end of the year and it's not clear if an extension would be included in any budget deal. >> i don't think we've reached that point where we've said this is it, take it or leave it. what i hear from patty murray, i spoke to her the other night, negotiations are making progress, moving in the right direction. >> i want to bring in our company, carrie budoff brown, ron fornier. good morning. >> good morning. >> carrie, is getting a deal done, if it does happen this week, a major milestone or is this the smallest possible thing they could do just to keep the government up and running? >> well, it's more significant than the deal that they got two months ago to keep the government running. that was a two-mon

be at hand. maybe. there is a catch. it is senator pae eor patty mur is working with paul ryan on this. you might remember him from the big deficit reduction in 2010. he was part of that and he killed it. also the big bipartisan gang of six. he was part of that ena he killed it. he was about part of the grand bargain in 2011 which was killed by paul ryan. so yes, patty murray and paul ryan are reportedly close to a deal that would kill the sequester, get us a budget, and all sorts of reasonable things that everybody in washington says they want. paul ryan's history of working on deals like this is he likes to be seen working on them before he breaks free and calls them impure and kills what he helped to negotiate. i'm not getting excited about this yet. initial reports are positive, long term prospects are dim. even the babiest of babe steps are steps. in a year like this one, a congress like this one, the most meager signs of progress must be nurtured. so you can see like right here i can just... you know, check my policy here, add a car, ah speak to customer service, check on a claim...yo
